Auditions for The Creek generally begin with open sectionals occurring in October or November, then culminate in a formal audition. The audition weekend is held later in the year to accommodate fall semester and high school/college marching band schedules. All auditions are free of charge.

What can I audition for? What to bring?
TCI auditions for all positions. We accept auditions on Snare, Tenor, Bass, Cymbal, Marimba, Vibraphone, Multi-Percussion, Drumset, Guitar, Bass, Keyboard Synthesizer, and Electronics. Some equipment will be provided, though bringing your own is a good idea. The needed music will be made available at the sectionals and online. Bring sticks/pad/mallets, your sweet chops and a smiling face.
What are the age requirements?
Anyone 22 or younger through March 31 of the competitive year is eligible to join TCI or any independent percussion ensemble. If you turn 23 on or after April 1st, you are in the clear.
How much are dues for TCI?
$1300. This money goes toward the Dayton trip, equipment purchases, uniforms, entry fees and other costs. We do everything possible to keep dues low and mitigate expenses. Our instructional and support staffs donate their time. The first dues payment must be made after auditions in order to secure your position.
Not included in the membership fees are expenses like shirts, shoes or rehearsal needs. Please make sure you do not have any outstanding debt or obligations to other organizations such as money, equipment, uniform, etc.
What if I want to march but can’t afford $1300?
Start saving and finding ways to pay now. If you really want to march, you’ll find a way to pay for it. Get a part-time job, grab a local high school drumline teaching gig, or find friends and family to sponsor you. Start working out your money plan as soon as possible, so you don’t get stuck later.
We know this is not cheap. But it is cheaper than drum corps, and for over 300 hours of world-class percussion instruction, it is a bargain.
What is the rehearsal and performance schedule for the season?
After auditions, there are rehearsals and performances nearly every weekend for the duration of the season, including during holiday breaks. Weekend rehearsals will generally consist of Friday evenings, full-day Saturdays, and Sunday afternoons. Performances generally begin in early February. Please refer to the official schedule when posted for exact dates.
Can a high school student be a member of TCI?
Yes, we are very open to young talent joining the ranks. If your current high school does not have a competitive scholastic indoor program, you are welcome to audition for a spot with TCI.
Participating in the weekly audition sessions is a great way to learn new techniques, gain a positive educational percussion experience, and understand what is expected for members of TCI, even if you are marching for your high school in the spring.
Can I still march drum corps or teach a high school program?
We hope that you would have an interest in performing or educating others. Becoming part of TCI, you will realize all members involved make many sacrifices. Drum corps conflicts will be addressed on a case-by-case basis. Be proactive in communication with us and your prospective drum corps about camp schedules and TCI performances.
Please understand and respect your commitment to be a performer with TCI. Family emergencies and grade-dependent concerts have been excused in the past. Time management of your family, school, work and social schedules need to allow you to attend every rehearsal. We are looking out for what’s best for TCI and your fellow members.
Can my family help with TCI?
Yes! There are plenty of opportunities for friends and parents to join our support staff. Driving, building, uniforms, camp weekends, etc. We hold an open-house meeting soon after auditions where parents can learn about these opportunities.
