About The Creek

More than drums in a gym:

The Creek exists to serve and educate its members, staff and community through excellence in relationships, education, the arts and performance.

The Creek is an Independent World Class indoor drumline founded in 2007 that grew out of the ensembles at Timber Creek High School, in Orlando, Florida, which opened in 2001.

In the Spring of 2006, the high school indoor ensemble performed “The Way Up” based on the Grammy award winning music of the Pat Metheny Group.  And in 2007, the drumline garnered national attention with their avant-garde early season premier show.  That year they went on to be promoted from A to Open class, were named WGI Nashville Open Class Champions, and won the FFCC Open Class Championship with another Metheny-inspired production “Continue: Being” based on Minuano (Six Eight).

Clinicians for the percussion ensembles at Timber Creek have included Jeff Moore, John Parks, Antonio Sanchez, Bob Becker, Paul Rennick, Steve Smith, Scott Johnson, David Gillingham, Mike McIntosh, Giovanni Hidalgo, and Jeff Queen.

The decision for Timber Creek to explore the creative and educational possibilities as an independent ensemble in 2008 was the logical next step. The Creek continues on the same solid foundation, with the same high standards, student-centered focus, work ethic, and educational commitments that have successfully fueled the scholastic percussion ensembles.

In 2008, as Timber Creek Independent, they made history with two class promotions, moving from A to Open to World, while winning PIA at WGI Orlando and PIO at WGI Nashville. TCI then won the FFCC World Class Championship and made World Class Finals at WGI in their first year as an independent group.

For the 2009 season, TCI returned with “Videotape,” a show was based on the music of Radiohead that explored the themes of surveillance and anonymity. In 2010, TCI presented “Censored,” featuring the music of Erik Satie and the Beastie Boys. And in 2011, the group will be back with another meaningful show titled “Color and Heart” featuring the music of Sufjan Stevens. The show will be dedicated to the memory of John Seay.
